Love it, love it, love it.
Only comment I could make is that I would have like more room in front of bird and less at the back.

Love minimalism and this is an excellent example. I agree with Jill, although rules are made to be broken it's considered a better composition if animals/birds/people etc are moving into a scene. I know judges prefer it that way.

    Re: My Shoreline Birds

I haven't seen any of the other shots in the mentioned series. So can only comment on the stand alone image. It would never occur to me to do this with an image so take my comments with a grain of salt.

It is an interesting concept. I like the idea of the isolation/minimalistic presentation of the bird. I'm interested in why you chose to convert to B/W. IMO the concept would have worked much better if the reflections was a more pure duplication of the bird. Lacking that the choice to give equal space to the bird and reflection is not supported with a symmetrical mirror image. Consequently then the concept collapses including the choice to position the bird escaping rather than entering the space. Clearly all of this is a matter of taste. For mine the images that I've seen historically where he bird exiting the frame has worked have included more space around the bird and/or had perfect inverted duplicates.

Very creative thinking and I'm interested in seeing more of your work.

Very unusual to see a bird photograph used in this manner, but I think you had just the right shot for it, and the turnout I would say was a successful artistic endeavor. One thing I really like about the image is the faint ripples near the bottom of the frame. The reflection being rippled also makes an interesting affect.

Kelvin, I am very drawn to this perfectly unconventional composition - to me almost beyond composition to something more like design. I undoubtedly would not have the creativity to arrive at this solution, even as a possibility, but as you have presented it, I cannot think of a way to a better result.

    Hi Kelvin,

Just to say that I adore this image for its beauty and simplicity. I too would think that more space should be in front of the bird and less at the back but for some reason the empty space at the back works beautifully for me... my eyes are constantly drawn to the bird.

    Jill, back again.
I keep going back to this, probably because I love the subject, and concept of the simplification. I try similar processing occasionally.

I am interested to know your thinking process as regard the positioning on the page.
Also if you every wanted to share how it was processed I would be interested.
I have looked for your other pictures of the series as you suggested you had done but couldn't find any.

    Congratulation a great shot. Jill
