    Muliple Backups

I have a wd elements external hard drive running always.
My question is this. I have a voucher for an electronics store and it is around the price of another hard drive ,I was looking at the various types ie portable or desktop and realised I have no idea how to set up multiple backups so I would like advice from you knowledgeable people.
    Cheers Colin

    Colin,

Search the site and you will find a number of discussions of options.

My own opinion is that the second backup should always be off site. What if you have a fire, or a major water problem in the house? I sync (not back up) to an external drive for one backup and use a cloud service (CrashPlan) for the other.

My second backup is overseas. I had quite a disaster lately with so many drives filling up my desktop plus a Rocketfish USB slot and I ended up formatting my C Drive because I cannot do some stuffs at CiC like even a simple Copy and Paste. Used my laptop for a few months and cannot edit because it is not an editing computer -- it is my travel computer so I opted not to run my calibration machine on it. When I recovered from my format, I decided to just use my other drives one or two at a time, nothing in my desktop's USB...so far I am in heaven.

I use a daily backup that stays connected to my computer system and a weekly backup that is stored offsite. It's not a fool-proof system but nothing is.

    Hi Geordie,

I'm not the best at explaining technical things but I have two external hard drives, a Western Digital and a Sea Gate drive (the 2nd drive recently added on for more space)... On the first drive everything on my computer is backed up once a week (2 full back ups, in case something goes awry with the first back up)... On the 2nd drive I have a set of old pictures (to allow for extra space) which are backed up, and this drive also holds daily incremental back ups. I installed the external drives but had a computer tech person set it up because things were becoming too, complicated.

I also use a Cloud service back up just in case anything happens to the back ups on the external drives.

    I am now enlightened.
