Tabletop work - The Naked and the Red

My apologies to Norman Mailer on the title

I was testing out my new projector stand. I bought it to stand small objects on for shooting. The benefits are that you can put some space between the subject and the backdrop to avoid any shadows. You can do that on a table but you soon run out of space. It's height adjustable and tiltable. It also allows you to shoot at a higher level which is less of a strain. Only cost me £20. Also good for placing a backlight behind for shooting glass objects etc. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...ilpage_o00_s01

The bears are called (left to right) Earl (as he's grey). Jaques (he's made with French wool) and Lenin for his red jumper. They are sitting on a sheet of black acrylic perspex to give a reflection. I didn't use studio light here. I have several daylight bulbs - one overhead and one in a lamp to the right. They have a 'correlate colour temp of 6400k compared to about 3000k for a standard bulb. It gives a very clean sharp light.

Great technical information and illustrated with an impressive result. I favor Earl. I wonder if a used music stand might work well for this idea.

If it will fix at horizontal I don't see why not. It certainly makes things easier. Wish I had one earlier.

    Nice, especially the reflections.

Something like this I consider essential Rob. Yours is pretty nice.

I have an unused tripod I pressed into this service. I have several different sized bases (plywood) I just screw to the quick release plate of the pod. I just use double sided tape to attach a piece of plexi or whatever to the plywood base. Tilts in any direction as well as up and down.

I don't like to have more surface than necessary so if I want to get my lights up close. Plus as you mentioned you can place lights/reflectors/diffusers all around if needed.

Yes, that's quite useful if you only have a small area to work in. Using a large table and with lights on stands can take up a lot of space, even when just shooting a small subject.
