Small Light for Studio Use
I recently discovered some small 10W LED worklights, both plug in mains type (on sale for £20) and also some with a Li-ion battery able to power the unit for 2hours or so - £35.
Now the advantage of these is not just they are daylight ballanced, and run cool; they also provide a near point source of light. In the images you can see the LED chip in the centre of the light. Hence they provide quite sharp shadows. Being small one can easily modify the light with diffusion, reflectors and so on.
For table top work they are ideal, especially copying old photographs "in the field" where reflections have to be avoided.
As you can see I just mounted them on a lightstand with a manfrotto clamp.

Nice, haven't gotten into pricing studio lights yet. I use an LED desk lamp and a garage lamp with clamp for current work.

I don't mind mixing light sources. Although I have two sets of very decent monolight flash units, my dog portraits are usually shot with a four daylight CFL softbox along with a hobby OTT light as fill lights and a Canon hotshoe strobe bounced off the ceiling and modified with a Joe Demb Flash diffuser Pro as my main light source.
