Monarch Caterpillar
I found these Monarch Caterpillar today so thought I'd try macro again.
I usually find macro frustrating but go back to it now and then.
My failure rate if very high. The though that I may get it right, keeps me going.
This was taken with a 100 mm macro lens with an extension tube on.
ISO 100, exp 1/125 sec at f/18 with a small amount of fill flash.
This time I found myself getting involved with the small world of macro.
The caterpillars obsessive frantic eating and sensitivity to touch (from another caterpillar).
Critique very welcome.

Re: Monarch Caterpillar
Very good DoF and nice detail, right down to the little creepy crawly between the two caterpillars.

Re: Monarch Caterpillar
I've long since given up on macro myself, Jill. But for what it's worth I'd say you did well on this one. I suppose a macro expert may nitnat about technical issues but as a simple viewer I'll say that the composition is really excellent. Also love the brilliant colors isolated against the dark BG. With moving creatures I suspect you sat there for a bit to accomplish this. Either that or you're darn lucky.
Nicely done.

Re: Monarch Caterpillar
I think it is a very good composition and shot. Even the little bugs deep in the leaf are pretty clear. Love the colors.

Re: Monarch Caterpillar
Thanks Dan
They were very low on the ground, small plants. I stack old pots behind them. This dark black though must have been helped by the shutter speed.
I did sit for a while, mainly trying to get them on the same plane as DOF was important. This is the first time doing Macro that I started enjoying them on a macro level.
