    Off the balcony

A couple of pics shot off the tiny balcony of my niece's apartment in downtown TO last October, just processed tonight. They were hastily shot with my Canon Powershot S95. Wish I had had the time to get out the big gear.

I love the textures in #1 and the geometric patterns of #2.

Thanks, Barbara. If the first one had been in better focus and higher resolution, I would have processed more for the texture, but as it was I went more for the shapes.

Both great images Janis, apart from maybe a tad exposure adjustment locally on the top of 2 of the barrels, i wouldnt change a thing.

A good study of shapes...I think the first one looks neat though a little bit too exposed..and the cigarette butt removed on the large planter. LOL the texture of the sand adds to the shot as well. #2 is a bit noisy? how far are you from the top? Is the colour version in this one good enough? Just curious...

Two clever compositions Janis. I also like the grainy finish. Nice work,

Thanks, Mark, Izzie, John 1 and John 2. Izzie, what you are seeing is noise is actually a film effect (grain) applied in SilverEfex Pro. Not to everyone's taste I know, but I am kind of partial to it. Your critique has been noted, along with some of my own, and I think I will give them both another go.

Texture, shape, contrast and unusual views, I wish my vision worked that way Janis. Very good, both.

Both are very nice Janis, I like #2 the best though.

Great set! I especially love the point of view/compositions in both and the post-processing... The first being my favourite.

    Re: Off the balcony

I think the texture and dimension conveyed in both is terrific.
I just posted in another thread, that I have a wee trifecta of a wish list for my photos to convey if possible.
It's texture, dimension & mood, I can't remember where I read it or watched it or who I learnt it from..but I think it's a good thought to have & your images here are another example of how it translates into an image & one of the reasons why an image appeals.

    Re: Off the balcony

Thank you, Grahame, Mark, Robert, Christina, Kay; very flattering. I tried reprocessing #2 last night, but all I do is introduce more things to distract the eye, and I think I like it best the way it is, reduced pretty much to its fundamentals. I will tidy up #1 at some point but my priority tonight is to try to recover the Windows side of the hard drive I lost on the weekend. No system backup there, unfortunately, just files, so it is going to be a long and tedious process.
