Yes they are, the closer you look at bird features the more sinister they appear.

Thank you John and Izzie! I think he was ticked that I didn't offer him any fish. The dike has them spoiled, the fishermen chunk fish at them that they deem too small or not edible. I was not fishing so had nothing for him.

Nice shots, Barbara. Your techs are good on these and they are well composed. If these are cropped you might try giving the first shot a little more room on top and right side. In other words pull the upper right corner out a bit with the crop tool. On the second one the size is good if the eye were in he center of the frame laterally(i.e.left to right). The body of the bird in the left side of frame doesn't add anything to the image so can only serve to draw attention away from the main subject, the head/neck.

    Well done.

These are fine achievements, crisp and with great light coming in through all of that glass and almost a sense of formality to the "poses". Of Dan's composition comments, his remarks on the second make the most sense to me, but they are both good as is. I agree the Head and Eye are interesting, but find the patterns and texture of the body and wing feathers intriguing as well - almost worth a crop of their own!

    Hi Barbara,

Absolutely gorgeous! I adore pelicans and you've captured the beauty of this bird perfectly. The colours (beginnings of breeding plumage) feather detail and colour, little tuft on the head, and beautiful focus and clarity on the eye. All set off by a beautiful background.

    Nevertheless, listen to Dan's suggestions.
