    The Red Ford

I saw this red Ford in a restaurant parking lot bit the harsh shadows cutting across the vehicle made getting a good full view image very difficult.

    The Red Ford

I've been told that if you need to make an image better, make it BIG and RED. Well this was already red so I went on to see if BIG would help.

At first I went with a square crop but that didn't seem to present itself as I had hoped because I was in too close to give sufficient breathing room for the fancy radiator cap.

    The Red Ford

Next, I decided to move in closer and tried a landscape view to better accommodate the 'wings' of the cap.

    The Red Ford

Any thoughts on which version is better and why?

How about the model year of the Ford. Any know what year this vehicle was before it was restored and embellished?

I like the first version as it contains the whole package, the reds are more pronounced, and shot gives a sense of place.

    Re: The Red Ford

    I like this effort Frank.
The last shot of the hood ornament works best for me. Why? Because there is less distracting reflections in the radiator shell. I'd crop it out as much as possible, say to the bottom parting line on the filler neck, if it were my shot.
My suggestion for the overall is, open the angle a little more, ie shot is taken at 25*(or some such, don't know for sure) to centerline of car, move to 35*-40*. Also, bend your knees a tad to give it a look you won't see normally when just looking at the car while standing straight.
That's an early Model A, I believe, but could be wrong.

Well, Frank, You took on a challenge. Very difficult to produce anything more than a high quality snapshot of the entire car given the setting. In this situation very often, less is more. Of what you presented, the third shot best accomplishes that IMO. Similar isolation of wheels, steering wheel, etc. are probably the best bet in this situation.

I've never shot a car but have faced similar situations with antique wooden boats docked in busy marinas.

No one mentioned that Frank was wearing blue jeans and a yellow shirt? Oh OK...nevermind...

Frank I like #1 very much because it show the whole car at least I know what I am looking at with respect to the second and third shot. Not that I do not like #2 and #3 and close up is good...I just prefer the first one.

(Besides I am an Aussie...either you are Ford person or a Holden one...)

Comments are very much appreciated! I managed to fall and chip a bone in my right wrist so while my arm is in a sling, postings will be limited to what I can manage with my left hand. Things should be back to normal in a week or so.

Sorry to hear that. I don't think I could operate my camera with only my left hand. It'd be difficult to set up the tripod too.

Thanks Alan! Saw the Orthopedic Surgeon this morning. As far as wrist fractures go on a scale of 1-10, this was a 1 so splint and limited movement for a few weeks and as good as it's gonna get in about 6 weeks.

That significantly limits use of the right hand for now. Very hard to shoot or use a computer mouse at the moment. I'm very thankful as it could have been a whole lot worse!

I had to learn to use a mouse with my left hand due to carpel problems with my right. It can be done, just takes some time to get the muscle memory working.

    Thank you Nandakumar!

LOL! I don't think the owner would have appreciated not being able to find his wheels after dinner. From what I heard, the owners are a retired couple.

I am surprised that nobody commented on the big black bar sticking up on the passenger side.

Thank you all for your concern.

Although I hit the concrete quite hard when I tripped, I was very lucky. I am looking for alternative ways to minimize the impact on my activities and don't expect that it will take long to get back up to speed, especially as my normal speed is slow!

I noticed that and at first thought it might be an exhaust, but then saw it was or looked like it was padded. Figure it's for ease of entry into/on the vehicle.

I am pretty sure it is an exhaust pipe. boxy open vehicles tend to swirl the air currents into the passenger compartment. getting the exhaust up and into the air passing over that flow can elevate the problem.

If you look at the pic full sized it is attached to the bars that go around the seat and attach the step on the side. Exhaust on this should exit out the rear on the left side if I'm not mistaken. Note also the GoPro camera mounted at the top of the bar.

I am a fan of #3 and honestly can't tell you why except it is more appealing to my eye. I went back and forth like 10 times and each time was drawn to 3 more.
