    Two more from Morriscastle, Co.Wexford

Just a cloudy sky and the sea. But the shapes and colours are constantly changing. This was early afternoon yesterday with 15 minutes between the two.
I will admit to a little pushin' and shovin' in ACR (mainly curves) to get these just as I saw them.

Nice capture, I like the first composition.

Nice, Neville, both of them. The first has some nice strong compositional elements, while I favor the colors in the second. It seems to me that your "pushing' and shoving'" was just right.

Very good Neville, I especially like No 2 and suspect there's a couple of additional crop options there that could also be used.

Oh, a slight horizon correction has been overlooked, easily done when concentrating on getting the 'look' how you want it.

#1 is so perfect to my eyes Neville. Excellent job there. I love it very much. The pushing and shoving is well worth it especially if it resembles what you eyes had seen...I like #2 too, just that it lacks the interesting foreground of #1. #1 is like a shot from a travel catalogue...

Many thanks all. As regards the horizon in no.2 Grahame, I had noticed the slight tilt but when I corrected it the image looked wrong so I undid the change. I think it is because the wave just below the horizon is a stronger element and conflicts with it. I realise this could open a debate based on the question 'Should the horizon always be horizontal?'. My instinct tells me it should and perhaps the near horizontal so close to the horizon is a compositional flaw.
    Any thoughts anyone?

Aesthetically speaking, yes... because it is the mind's instinct that at least a portion of the land's architecture is sort of straight even if you are shooting on a slope. I think it is how we process what we are used (or told?) to think when we were young-er.

In my own view Neville I believe the horizon should always be level in a scene like this.

As for the near horizontal (wave) below the horizon this is certainly not a compositional flaw and I think that the wave crest not being parallel with the horizon adds to the scene.

Re: Two more from Morriscastle, Co.Wexford

#2 isn't quite working for me, Neville. I think I would crop the bottom to lose around half of the distance between the waves and the edge. And have a different image size, maybe 3 x 2 ratio.

Horizons are never truly level due to the curvature of the earth; but that isn't noticeable on this scale.

However, besides a very slight slant, there appears to be a bit of curvature towards the right side. Maybe the effect of distant waves or more likely a fraction of lens distortion.

Although water should normally be perfectly level there are occasions when a photo looks better being fractionally optically level instead of true level.
