    Marlow Mill

I have been taking full advantage of the wonderful light that we have had in Marlow for some days now, although this morning a 9.00am the temperature was at -5 degrees C.

I have done some white balance adjustment as the low sun was producing a red caste. Do you think I have got it about right? Your views will be gratefully received.

Just about right for the horizon and foreground, the sky is a bit pasty though, nice pastel shade but not much detail.

Hi, Christopher. This is a nicely composed image of an interesting looking location.

Not sure what your asking regarding "have (you) got it about right". None of us were there. If you are asking whether there are pure whites in the image, yes there appear to be. But based on your mention of the low sun producing colorful lighting, then you have most definitively not "got it right" IMO.

I'm not sure why you felt compelled to remove the color of the natural light. As presented the image, while technically sound, lacks a distinguishing character. It does not reflect your description of having been shot in early morning light. Also, it looks like there is a lot of potential detail that could be brought out in the sky with some processing. Particularly if there were more color to the clouds.

How the image ultimately looks is up to you. Purely from the perspective of a viewer I'd say the image looks rather bland.

When I click on the picture to look at it as big as is possible here on the forum, it looks like the focus is soft when looking at the roof top edges/buildings. Maybe it lost some sharpness in the down sizing?
I agree with what is being said about the loss of color from the clouds. Did you want it to look like this or was the scene actually like this?
I, for one, like photos that reflect how a scene looks when the picture was taken.
-5*C, that's colder than what I have had to endure for quite some time.

Nice composition, interesting place, but I find I had the same reaction as Mark and Dan... the light is very pleasant, but not very interesting. I wonder whether reinstating some of the warm hues that you thought a problem might give this interesting composition a little more character.

Not being there at the time makes comment speculative but, unless it was quite misty, it seems that a sun-lit winter morning should produce more contrast and colour, perhaps -

I've missed the clouds on the first shot. Nice edit Philip...
