Even the Lowly Seagull Can be Beautiful

I've been testing a new Focus mode in my D810, Group Auto Focus. Seagulls are just easy to shoot.

Taken like this angle, it looks good to me...I like the lighting and the spread of the wing here. Why is it that your EXIF is not showing?

If you save the JPG for posting without specifying the inclusion of EXIF it will not be there.

Even if it is just a gull, it's a great shot. It'c cool that you got one bird in focus, and others not.

Agree the buggers are hard to get sharp and chase

Well your focus is working well. The in focus bird is nicely captured. In addition to being "easy to shoot" they are plentiful and approachable. They provide ample opportunity to practice all aspects of BIF photography, not only the technical.

    What lens were you shooting?

Nor is there any such word as ain't. And yet many of us use it every day.

And if anyone bothers to post a dictionary link to the definition of "ain't" please do the same for "seagull"

It is a juvenile Ring-Billed Gull. I shoot with a D810 with an 80-400 Nikkor 4.5/5.6 and a 1.4 tele-extender which pushes me to f/8 minimum. It's not bad in good sunlight but can be a bit of a bugger in low light. This shot was made using the D810's feature of Group Area focus and it is something I am just getting used to. Fortunately, I can bump the ISO up considerably before noise becomes an issue. As to EDIF data, most of my images will not include the EXIF due to the type of processing I do, which can be very extensive or just a little here and there.

Interesting, can you post also the shutter speed and ISO for this shot?

I thought my only savior to save the EXIF is to use Save As and not the Save for the Web...

ISO 1000 f/8 @ 1/3200. I was shooting in the early am hours, in and out of dark areas. Seemed easier to just use the higher ISO than switch about since with the D810, it is not an issue.
