    Mua

    Yeah right!

I spend hours every morning in the bathroom trying to make myself look beauteous! And does anyone appreciate it?

With this makeup technique its no wonder I look like a rodeo clown after I’m done!

(sigh)I guess I’ll never make the cover of Cosmo at this rate!

When you are born ugly? It lasts a long time!

    F/8.0
    1/200th shutter
    ISO 1000
Minimum flash duration to stop the blowing powder, brush motion, and brush bristles 1/8000th+.
    One shot, one frame.
    Three lights fired.

    Another beauty!

I can appreciate that it was done in only one shot. How many shots did you take to get one this good?

Very imaginative Terry, those will make great stencilling brushes if you can get them washed out well (smileys down again)

    Re: Mua

    Thanks guys!

It took tons Mike! The purpose of the shoot was to get something nice of course, but primarily to see what it would take to freeze the motion of the powder and how best to light it.

A ton to get the lighting on the bottom brush, which is stationary. I ran into some issues I had to investigate. When I got that ironed out I took another ton playing with the brushes without the powder to see how I might time the shot. The top brush is moving.

But surprisingly, when I added the powder to the scene, I got this shot within six shots and I liked the lighting. I guess I got lucky!

I have made plenty of messes before but this shot scared me! No way did I want this powder stuff staining any of my gear. Last thing I need is a permanent pink color cast on one of my diffusers so I used the Translum on the motion side since it is easily washed.

Turns out the powder itself is pretty easily washed out. The making of it isn’t. I used cornstarch colored with cake icing gel coloring and water and under threat of demise if I stained the kitchen tile or countertop!

After mixing it I let it dry and then dried it further in the oven. At that point it will “powder up” easily but I had pink fingers for a couple of days from mixing it. I was wearing latex gloves to boot!

Good idea Grahame! Maybe I could use them to stencil "caution" on my fore head!
