Where I live...
It is the Australia Day weekend here, with a public holiday to celebrate tomorrow.
As part of the festivities, there are some sailing competitions on the bay where our town is situated.
I thought I would share a few, before choosing my selection for my Project 52 album.
These 2 were taken from the 'Western Beach' side, which is the least populated side. On 'Eastern beach' there is a pool and playground etc for the kiddies, so most people head that way.
Then we went a bit further around the bay in the car to the side where my husband sets off on his sailboard.
I probably didn't have the reach on the lens with me to get really close, so I tried the minimilast, lots of sky look...the seagull popped in, so I focused on him for this one, not sure if it works or not.
And the final 2, with the spinnakers on some yachts, I was waiting till the red sail, was hiding the red marker buoy but then wasn't sure which of the crops. The buoy is hidden, when I waited, but the last boat on the rt, has a chopped off feel to me.
Thankyou for viewing

Re: Where I live...
I like the first and last. If you could pull out a little more detail in the sky in that last one it would be better yet.
I never realized how much you Ozzies love the water until we visited down under in 2013. Up here we mostly see he photos of the Outback. It makes sense seeing as you have more coastline than the continental US. Then again, Alaska alone has more coastline than either Oz or the ConUS

Re: Where I live...
I think the seagull works well in the 3rd shot, Kay. It gives a sense of depth to the scene. And then the 5th one because of the layers of colour in the sea and sky punctuated by the colours of the spinnakers.

Re: Where I live...
I like #1 and #2 for the indications of how beautiful that day was going. #3 for the seagull inclusion...I think #4's cloud can be given a little bit of selective lift so the reach distance of the spinnakers will not be as prominent. (Just a thought..)
Thanks for reminding me about Aussie Day weekend. It'd have been nice to watch cricket on tv but we do not have that here.
Happy Australia Day!!

Re: Where I live...
Interesting series, it took a moment to recognize the sailboats, too focused on the other elements of the first two images.

Re: Where I live...
The first two work fine for me, Kay.
With the third one, that gull is just too small to be the main subject and the boats are out of focus which loses the impact. If you extracted the bird and pasted it into the forth scene it would look fine.
And the first of the last two has more impact for me. It looks like a race while the last one is more like just a number of boats together.

Re: Where I live...
Thanks all
Dan, I will have another go at that sky & yes many Australians won't consider living anywhere that does not allow them access by a short drive to water.
Greg, Thankyou for your kind comments.
Izzie, Happy Australia Day to you as well! I will have another pass at #4 k see how I go.
Thanks John, Peter & Nandakumar & Geoff, Thankyou for your suggestions, I will have a try at moving mr seagull... He may look too big in comparison, I'll give it a shot.
Thankyou again for viewing & comments.

Re: Where I live...
Nice series Kay! I like the second most. I am tempted to crop some of the sky but would be unwilling to loose some of the sky!

Re: Where I live...
Nice series especially since I am sitting in the midst of a cold windy winter storm.
