    Two Old Furry Men

This is Corey and Bear (smaller one). Corey is 20 and Bear is approximately the same age (he was a rescue that's why his age is uncertain). Bear is Corey's companion.

This was taken right after the snow storm this past weekend. Tonight as I post this, we are in the midst of a blizzard. They prefer to be out and about no matter the weather, but since this storm is predicted to be a bad one, they are now confined to their stalls in the barn.

Hi Kim: This is a cute shot of two buddies. Bear seems to be quite wooly. Does he have some longhair breeding in there somewhere?

Hi Susan. Bear is a Shetland pony. He gets extremely furry in the winter. He has a coat like a grizzly bear!

Nice composition and depth of field, Kim! I really like that only one eye is shown in both horses. The hair is sharp but not too sharp. You seem to be improving every day.

Thank you Mike. I appreciate your feedback. Wish i started this long ago so I would be further ahead on this journey of learning photography - which I love so. Having a relationship with a mentor has proven to be an extremely helpful experience, for which I am very grateful.

I am loving your shots every time, Kim -- these two are great looking. I like the expressions they gave you here, especially Bear. Are both of these your horses?

Oh btw how is the wrist going this winter?

Thank you Izzie. Yes, I have had Corey for 13 years -- he was my show horse (a hunter/jumper). He's now retired. I have had Bear since 2010. Corey was lonely when I moved him home, so Bear became his friend.

Thanks for asking. It's been a challenge but actually combining something with a tip you provided has helped. I found a very thick compression sock, it provides support (that you mentioned) and a lot of warmth. I cut off the foot part and put over my wrist. That keeps my hand warmer for some odd reason. Then, I cut the fingers off my glove, so I shoot with that on. It's challenging, but it's working :-)

    Kim,

I use Swix System 2 medium weight gloves (medium insulation designed for Nordic skiing, snowshoeing and everyday training). No need to cut holes in the fingers because the gloves allow me to easily operate the camera controls. I've been using them a long time; I'm on my second pair.

Nicely done, Kim. Do the horses get frisky when it snows? Every dog I've ever seen loves fresh snow for whatever reason. Even up here where it is with us all winter, when we get new snow the dogs love it. Though mine has her limits. It was -5F here this morning. Grace barely stuck her nose out the door then decided she would rather lay by the fire than empty her bladder.

    Thank you Dan.

They sure do love the snow! Corey has a tendency to get a little crazy in new snow so I have to be careful he doesn't hurt himself. They roll in it like dogs and run around in it. Since Bear is small he tends to be smart and just watch Corey from a distance.

Good for you...!!! Whatever works, go for it and do not change nor buy anything more, second hand from your wardrobe doesn't hurt the pocket...I have a few compression socks for travelling which I always forgot I have. Time to put it to good use instead of the long leather one that I bought that I used only once.
