My wife broke another wine glass!
Six of us were relaxing in our sun room after eating our main meal of the day when I walked by my wife's chair. Several people including my wife cautioned me about her wine glass on the floor, not realizing I had noticed it and was carefully avoiding it. Sure enough, minutes later my wife broke the glass...her second breakage in a week and both of them with the stem left intact. Yessssssssssssssssss!

Re: My wife broke another wine glass!
There appears to be a pattern: Guests, wife, wine, imbibing, celebratory gatherings, broken wine glass, photo.
In this particular case, I think your wife did a great job, your photo clearly shows her artistic bent.
Seriously, this is a particular good image that I think is one of your best.

Re: My wife broke another wine glass!
That's a great image, Mike. I'll have to train my wife to do that!

Re: My wife broke another wine glass!
Mike, as always I am admiring of your lighting scheme. Your last one I remember was lit from behind. This one seems to be from both sides, perhaps two lights on each side facing slight upwards. How close is my guess?

Re: My wife broke another wine glass!
Thanks, everyone!
Tony asked about the lighting scheme. It's one large lamp shining from behind a piece of black felt toward the subject and camera. (The black felt could be replaced by white poster board or just about anything and the background would still appear black).
I usually also place a large circular diffuser between the lamp and the piece of felt but decided this time to determine what the difference is when not using it. I have more work to do to make that determination.
This lighting scheme almost always creates terrible flare and, indeed, that happened with the first two compositions I set up of the glass. (Those photos are now deleted.) For reasons unknown to me, there was absolutely no flare when I made this photo and, thus, no need to add a flag to prevent the flare. My flag is a small piece of black poster board with a rectangle cut in the middle that is the aspect ratio of the camera's sensor. Positioning the flag in front of the lens so the lens "shoots" through the rectangular hole eliminates all flare but it's difficult to perfectly position it. Making this photo is the first time I have not needed to use the flag when using this lighting scheme.
If you have the fourth edition of Light Science & Magic, the lighting scheme and rationale are described beginning on page 165 and diagrammed on page 167.

Re: My wife broke another wine glass!
Nice shot. Now, just an idea, take a complete glass from the same set, fill with wine and shoot it. Overlay the broken one so it looks like wine defying gravity by holding the shape of the glass. A couple of broken pieces at the bottom would be cool.
Drink the wine, no sense letting it spoil.

Re: My wife broke another wine glass!
Continued thanks to everyone!
Brian: Your idea is really clever and would be great for someone to try who likes that kind of photography. It's not my thing.
I created this new thread to display a photo of both wine glasses broken in the past week by my wife.

Re: My wife broke another wine glass!
I sometimes, in the morning while working on my half dozen daily crossword puzzles, notice a slight
tremor in my hands. We have starting using non-breakable dishes and stuff, as a precaution.

Re: My wife broke another wine glass!
I have never been able to complete a crossword puzzle in my life, let alone a half dozen each day. My hat is off to you.

Re: My wife broke another wine glass!
Working on them Mike does not mean finishing them...think about a 5% completion rate.
