My goodness what a pair! That first shot with the two of them is excellent. I've always favored mostly grey/roan coloring with liver patches. But Grace is mostly liver and no stripe between the eyes.
When I was a lad we had both GSPs and English Pointers(are they really English?). In the southern US where we hunted the English would beat their tails to bloody pulp on the briars. I was always told that was the reason for the docking, to avoid that. Though given the propensity for German breeds to have docked tails I suspect it was simply a breeders' preference that became standard. But it is quite practical both in the field and around the house.
