This bird looks a bit comical. Doesn't look like an easy shot, but good tracking and exposure, even if the wings are a little clipped.

Every shot is a compromise between context and detail. At least my shots always are That being the case #2 gets my nod. Although getting the best crop could be a challenge?

    Great captures.
Large birds coming at you + long lens + crop camera and wing clipping is inevitable. Nowadays if I know that large birds are going to be present I go for the 70-300L and leave the longer lens in the car or at home.

Nice clear shots, Barbara...like them all for the sequence. Did you get a splash one after the landing?

Pic #2 gets my vote , it is a shame that part of the wing is cut short.

Wings are no problem...steal one from another image and just blend it in.

Thanks Nick. I know, reminded me of one of the characters from an animated movie! I am going back to try again to get the whole bird. I had a few with the whole bird but they lacked something.

Brian I am learning that! I am determined to get it though! Thanks for the comments!

I learned that the hard way. I am now going to carry my second camera with a shorter prime for these occasions. I really prefer the primes to the telephoto, not sure why. Thanks for the comments.

Thanks Izzie! Unfortunately he landed on the pier so no splash down. That is my favorite part so I will be working on getting that.

Thanks Raymond. I know, I was disappointed as I thought I had it all Lucky for me those particular birds are abundant in my area so I will have another chance to get it right.

Now that would take ALOT of class in PP. I have zero skills at that but am working on it.
