    Anyone Remember "The Flying Nun"

Does anyone remember the old U.S.A. television sitcom, "the Flying Nun" starring Sally Field?

    Anyone Remember "The Flying Nun"

Well here's my version, Lauren The Flying Maltipoo

    Anyone Remember "The Flying Nun"

Actually her ears only shoot out like that when she is frightened. Her ears normally look like this...

    Anyone Remember "The Flying Nun"

Here she is with her best buddy Kristen...

    Anyone Remember "The Flying Nun"

They were both cut pretty short by the shelter. We have had them for two weeks tomorrow. They have gained weight and are becoming socialized. Kristen is on my lap as I type this. These two girls came from an "animal hoarder" who had multiple dogs living in squalid conditions and was evicted by the local sheriff. The dogs were turned over to the San Diego County Animal Shelter who called us to help.

Princess came to us about the same time as Lauren and Kristen. She was relinquished by her owner who was moving to an apartment where she could not have dogs...

Some dogs perked their ears up...this one made it to horizontal position. Really funny...They all look beautiful and pretty.

If you want "Flying Nun" ears - check out these - Meet my boy Duke whom I rescued about 18 months ago.
This was taken on his first day home - he was about 1 at the time

and he was in pretty sorry shape both physically and mentally - this was the picture (used with permission ) that was posted on Facebook by a friend of mine involved in the rescue. This broke my heart - His time was running out at the shelter where he was and most rescue organizations in the area were reluctant to take him on as he was so incredibly timid. He was only about 40lbs but some good grub soon changed all that and he is now a healthy 63lbs (or more)

I am not sure what his breed is - I was told mother a Bull Mastif/ Malamute cross and father a German Sheppard. Who knows? All I know is that he is now my boy

Wonderful story of a great rescue. Duke is a great looking dog and I am sure has returned your love and effort many times over.

I am also sure that Duke would protect you and your family with his life...

Re: Anyone Remember "The Flying Nun"

I just have to add this comment about rescuing a big wonderful dog like Duke. A few years ago we had a beautiful young lady murdered as she was jogging in a fairly remote area of a local lake. I am sure that a dog like Duke (there are almost always many wonderful large dogs in local shelters) would have loved to jog with her and having the dog as a jogging partner would (I am certain) have saved her life...

IMO, all dogs are wonderful! It's just that a big dog can offer a bit more protection!

I was at a gas station in Texas filling up my motor home. Two low-life slugs came by in a decrepit white van and wanted to sell me a home entertainment system as I was taking two Maltese on a potty break. They got quite insistent, until my wife strolled up with my 55 pound Goldendoodle on a lead.

One guy said, "What kind of dog is that?" My wife answered (with a white lie), "I don't know but she is pretty vicious around strangers!" The two slugs got back in the van saying, "Have a good day ma'am!"

Holly would have licked them to death, but they didn't know that!

Thanks Richard . You Don't know this but you were one of my inspirations for going the adoption route. I have always loved dogs but thought that my work hours were too long for me to give the attention required. How wrong I was. Where there's a will there's a way. And yes there is the intimidation factor of a large dog. I feel quite comfortable walking him alone fairly late at night, within reason of course. Duke would probably run a mile if scared - he sometimes jumps at his own shadow, but no-one else knows that

Thanks Helen. Both I and my wife feel wonderful that we have partially influenced another person to go The adoption route. Adopting one dog will not change the world. But, IT WILL CHANGE THE WORLD FOR THAT DOG!

One thing I know...no matter how big or small your dog is, s/he will not leave you when it sense you are in trouble...been there...
