    Lots of Snow...

Lots of snow here in New England and I'm finding it a challenge to get good photos in the snow. And, still trying to learn about composition. And LR. Little by little. All of your suggestions are most welcome and very much appreciated.
    Many thanks, Diane

Nice effort. How are you handling white balance?

Looks like some sunlight and shade? Personally, I like the image. Great expression on the doggie and I suspect he/she was enjoying the heck out of the deep snow.

Auto WB and then left it set as shot and played around with settings in LR until I liked it. Suggestions? comments?

Jack - that is exactly what it was - she was in a deep snow - practically a snow tunnel - with sunshine to the side. She *loves* the snow - it is hard to get her to sit still :-) Her name is Tuggie.
I like the photo as well - but don't know enough to know what I might do better. Would you do anything different in shooting it, processing it?
    Thanks for your thoughts, Diane

It's interesting to see both a warm and a cool cast on the snow in one image. I don't know that I mind it. I think the warm light on Tuggie's face is beautiful and I definitely would not want to mess with it.

Thanks, Janis. I thought that was interesting too. I do like the light on her face. Thoughts about composition?

Hi Diane, any shots I get of my dog are catch-as-catch-can, she seldom (if ever) will stay still long enough to get a photo, much less a posed one. Your shot of Tuggie is, in my opinion, very good, there seems to be just the right amount of light playing across her face. I really like the light-to-shadow from left to right. Plus the color of the fur and eyes comes across as very natural and the expression is great. Honestly I doubt I could come close to capturing what you have.

A wee bit more room under her paws might be nice, but otherwise I think the composition is just fine. Great capture.

Very simple: leave it as is.

This image is so nice that I would really like to see a larger version of it. The small size you provided doesn't do it or you justice.

It's a great shot, and if you hadn't mentioned the snow, I'd have thought this was a studio shot. You've captured Trudie very well.

Thank you, Kaye. When I was looking at it, it almost looked to me like she was in a cloud :-)

    Mike - Wow - thanks!

Here is the photo as shot (I have a lot to learn about taking good original photos).

And this might be a slightly larger version of the processed photo (I'm still wrangling to understand Flickr).

Agree with Mike and Donald. She looks as if she is ready to dig in deeper and play or bolt up and play.

Beautiful capture of the main subject, the larger version is nice , the snow might be a little off cause you are dealing with shadows, what was your setting for metering? The last version in sepia in my opinion loses too much of the snow texture.
