Worth viewing at full screen size to fully appreciate the driving rain.

What's not to like about this? Not a single thing! Fabulous mood, texture, leading lines, etc. Everything is just wonderful.

Great shot John. This image would only look g̶o̶o̶d̶ right in B&W.

Re: Come Rain Come Shine
Thanks all for the comments. Getting out in bad weather is something I should do more but.....
@Geoff F. It was raining, hence the wet sand but I have to own up to adding a bit because the shutter speed needed to kill movement in the figure lost much of the original effect.
@ Mike B. I'm gradually learning to use the Structure slider in Nik software and I think that is where the texture comes from.
@ Jack P. Conceived as a Mono image for a change. Normally, that's a PP decision for me.

Re: Come Rain Come Shine
Great image, John. Lesson learned is that planning a shot as a B&W is often a very solid approach, rather than a fallout when you are working in post. I started out very much the same way, but quickly realized that if I shoot with monochrome output in mind, I will usually approach the shot differently and the end result is usually superior to waiting for good luck in post.
Overall, I love the grittiness of the image; it really connects with the environment and the weather. It reminds me of my B&W film days, shooting high speed B&W film with lots of grain for that type of effect.
The only thing I wonder about is how the image would look without the person and dog. I suspect it would look even more abstract than this version.

Absolutely fantastic image. Dare I say that it is a perfect B&W shot?

Re: Come Rain Come Shine
Thanks everyone for the additional comments. I wasn't sure about this one for a long while.
@Manfred - Your not only person to wonder about the figure. One or two others made the point at a critique session last week. I'm not sure. I reasoned at the time that the lead lines formed by the break water remnants would only take the eye to a horizontal line (surf) and there needed to be a focus to hold the eye in the comp. Maybe just fanciful thinking. I know I got wet waiting for him to get there.
@Dave - Trying to solve the same problem really. The vignette and the slight lightening of the central part of the sky was also in the interests of holding the eye in.
