Call me naive but I am with Matt. I like the original one better. I think it has all the mood needed to make one feels so cold...in reality, as most of us has been one way or the other, in a blizzard like this one illustrated above, you can hardly see anything but just shapes and blurs. Making the branches pop out to me is unnatural in some way...just a thought.

I used NIK Viveza; increasing the structure considerably and upping the contrast a tad and decreasing the brightness a tad...

I, too, prefer the very first version, Kathy. With the subsequent edits, the impression of the blizzard fades away. In the first shot, the falling snow appears to be covering the whole frame, but in the next it only seems to appear from about the middle of the frame. Note, that I have never seen a blizzard so I am not comparing your image to reality, but just relating its affect on me.

I will pray you will never be in one...it is hard yakka just going through it to reach your destination...pretty much like a heavy fog when you are near the top of a mountain but with strong winds (similar to the change of seasons in Oz) and rain and snow and sleets. You are in a lucky country even if the weather forecasters there are just sexy anchors, not real meteorologists. WE follow the weather around here seriously and joke about when the weatherman made a mistake. Plan your trip well when going overseas...

I just saw a photo in my modelling club magazine of people watching a boat after an evening meeting and it had started to rain and the flash has caught the drops of rain as white circles of various sizes ... ignore the people and it could be a 'space shot'. The editor uses a P&S for the magazine photos of club activities.

    John,
Sorry but could you explain what your post means, I am not sure if I am understanding it correctly. I'm a little slow . . .

Aah, tis a fuzzy line we draw in the sand...do we want that image to reflect what really was,
a flat image with a narrow histogram or PP that thing to death and spread that histogram.
from side to side. Where does realism end and art begin?

I ask in jest, it is a question that cannot be answered.

Jest keep askin' the questions as it provides a good reminder to think about where we're going.

The effect of a white blizzard is there in the first pic , the edited one is for me easier to view.

I guess that depends on whether your intention is to make an image or make a record.

Any competent photographer can make a record but, not all can create an image.
