I have been really working on this focus stacking and occasionally I am getting a reasonable one. I am finding that composition is a big thing, often they don't work because of that. (mistakes in composition are exaggerated). Lighting of course is a major. I think I will always be struggling this that. Sun is lovely but not always available. Variable when it is which is a major for focus stacking. I also have two small LED 5 watt lamps which are a bit pathetic, this was taken with them.
Critique very welcome as I want to get good at this.

Re: dandeline
I like the lighting. I use small LEDs for this sort of thing.

Re: dandeline
Hi Jill,
I'll throw in a few here;
You may consider your LED lamps a bit pathetic but the result they have given you here is certainly NOT pathetic.
I assume this was taken indoors and your intention may have been to get a black background and if so I'm wondering why it varies between blue and black. Was your background too close to the subject and partially lit by your subject lighting?
I'm not certain but wondering if the blurred/OOF areas are caused by the stacking process OR a lack of 'slices' for the depth of the subject. How are you determining the number of slices and controlling the gap between them?
A very difficult subject but a good result
PS. There was another good shot posted here not that long ago of a stacked dandelion so may be worth searching out as I recall a fair amount of discussion over it.

Grahame
thanks for your comments.
The background was a dark blue material , maybe 10" from the flower.
I did have one light shining onto it.
I taking the shots with Helicon Remote and putting together with Helicin focus.
So far with Focus I do Automatic and it makes the decision on hoe many shots.
The Fuzziness seems to be in many of my images where there is a big difference between the detail that is focused and the out of focus background. I understand I can take care of this by selecting appropriate layers and mask it. This I haven't done yet.
Thanks Jill

Re: dandeline
I loaded Helicon Remote a while ago, got around to setting it up for my lens and have not used it again since.
Good luck Jill with sorting the layers to eliminate the fuzziness, something I have not attempted yet when I have come across it.

Jill
I have no experience in this area, just wanted to say it is a very pleasing image to be admired.
