    Princess Mia

This is Mia. She is Catman's half-sister. Today when I was working with my mentor, when I shared this image with him SOOC, I mentioned that I was considering tossing it. He helped me to work thru what wasn't pleasing to me, and how to change it PP. He also helped me to understand the importance of a perfect white balance before converting to B&W. This was the end result; although this doesn't have the story of the Catman image I recently posted, this is a portrait of Mia that accurately captures her very funny, sweet personality.

She really is a stand out so nicely lit against that background and I agree with Richard re the quality at ISO 10,000.

We have the same camera, may I ask why ISO 10,000? This cat sure looks more subtle than Catman but I think I prefer Mr. Catman better. He has more personality.

Thanks Richard and Graham. The camera is a killer at a high ISO - it's my new best friend. :-)

Hi Izzie. I picked up a used Nikon D3S recently and i took this image, and the Catman image with it. The ISO is high because this was a nighttime shot in the kitchen and I didn't want to use a flash, change the shutter, or the aperture, so that meant increasing the ISO (I knew this camera can handle that ISO, so it wasn't a problem). I favor the Catman image as well; it's a lot more dramatic and he's a magnificent, arrogant beast.

Yeah...I sure understand that. I am lazy to use the flash either on mine but I am scared of high ISO because of the noise it might generate. I sure will try that...I did not take note of the camera in the EXIF. And here I am trying to adjust SS and aperture after I chose my ISO and when it did not work I think of flash. Thank you.

Nice portrait. It shows well in B/W. I showed this to a friend at work who is a cat whisperer. She say Mia thinks that her eyes are her best feature and wishes they showed to better effect.

Izzie, your D810 won't keep up with a D3s on ISO performance. Perhaps if you are going to downsample a full frame image to web resolution you can get away with that high ISO. Otherwise the noise will be a problem.

Thank you for looking and commenting Mike - I appreciate it:-). Also wanted to share, I did get those gloves you metioned. They came on Saturday. I have been looking for a glove like that for awhile, but never thought to check cross country. Think they will be very helpful for my issues and will be very useful beyond photography. Thank you.

    Thank you Dan.

Your comment from the cat whisperer made me laugh. Mia's eyes are her best feature and she shows a lot of expression thru them...most commonly what I call her "mad face". I'd be interested in what the whisperer thought Catman had to say ;-)

    Re: Princess Mia

Thanks....Dan for the info. I had balked at buying the D3 before because of the pixel count. It was a push and pull between the comparison of both that I decided on the D810 and also the price of course.

I will be wondering too what the cat whisperer said about Mr. Catman...I thought only horse whisperer has a title but cat whisperer seems amazing knowing that cats have their own personality...

I wish I had a crown for her Haseeb. Mia is the smallest in the house but also the mightyist - she lets it be known that she is the boss.
