    Macro Flower

This small flower grows like a weed in the garden, I have attempted to shoot it outside before but the breeze is always too strong. Today I noticed the other half has put a few of them with a flower arrangement indoors so as the camera was out I had a try.

What is fascinating about this (whatever it's called) is that late afternoon it completely closes inside what appears a brown cone with just a slight view of the top of the centre part protruding. I can not for the life of me work out how it does it without damage as when it opens again in the morning it's perfect.

Shot at f/25, 1/2s, 1:1 (frame equivalent to 22 mm across)

    Macro Flower

Perhaps another go to get rid of those highlights I thought I had cracked.

Thank you John, fascinating flower yes and I have just thought that to try and work out how it does it why not watch and take a sequence as it's doing it.

Pretty much like how morning glory is...it sort of have a clockwork wherein when it is morning it opens up and closes down during the night. This only last for 3 days before it dies, the flower I mean. Your flower here looks almost like an orchid...nicely done except for the highlight, still nicely done no matter what. I wonder what kind of weed it is...there is a kind of plant in our backyard that I call "weed" and my husband call "ground cover"...so I guess it depends on what you like to call it...

Thanks Izzie, yes the petals do look like an orchids but I find it far more interesting than the orchids I have here.
