Hi Jonathan, I love basketry, so this appeals to me. I like the concept, but wonder if it wouldn't be better if you hung your area of sharpest focus on one of the thirds. Right now it is kind of off-center. Good effort; keep it up.

This is a good start. Even though I love baskets and how it has been used as a fence or containers, I am not good enough to comment on this kind of photography. All I see right now is beauty...

Yes, I like to see the foreground sharply focused then fading to the rear.

Just a thought, but would it look better with a 90 degree counter clockwise rotation? That would place the sharp focus area a little better with focus fading towards each side.

    Hi,

Thank you all for the comments.
Actually, it's the back of a chair =D

Purplehaze, I'll try your suggestion next time.

I am not sure if I've got what you mean.

    Very imaginative!

Considering that you're "trying" abstract photography, try all sorts of variations using the same subject until you settle on a style that you prefer. You could turn the camera at different angles. You could try many types of depth of field including keeping everything in focus. You could use a lighting scheme that creates softer or harder shadows (less defined or more defined shadows). You could shine a light through a colored, translucent material such as a gel made for photography or a decorative plastic wrap perhaps stored in your kitchen pantry. When working with a strong pattern such as this one, also convert to monochrome. Lots of opportunities to explore!
