    Mass Exodus

Not sure what kind of birds these are. They were all feeding, there where hundreds to them, something spooked them and all at one they flew. I was intrigued by the pattern they made as they flew.

We have some starlings nearby that flew from place to place but everytime I see them and want to take photos, my camera is either at the back of the car or not with me. One day I will catch them... These ones are very nice. I am getting jealous. From experience, it is really hard to take BIF shots unless one is seasoned because it takes a lot of practice. Practice is what I do not have at the moment. I am glad you are getting yours, Mrs. Bird Lady...I am enjoying your photography very much.

Nice capture Barbara. My guess is that they are Godwits. (?)

    Nice shot, Barbara.

One thought on trying a slightly different crop. Try looking at cropping out all of the green in the background. That should result in an interesting and almost abstract view.

Nice picture. I'm not familiar with North American waders, but my guess is that they are Dowitchers. They are certainly not the Godwits we have here, but similar in size and shape.

Yes, nice shot. My money is on long billed dowitchers (the white stripe on the back extend to the tail on the short billed)

Thanks Izzie! I am fortunate to get to practice everyday. It is my outlet, with a 14 year old I need it!

Thanks, I actually thought about doing a crop not sure why I didn't. I shall try it. I have several shots of these so I will also see if there is another to work on. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thank you Dave! I just looked it up and you are correct they are long billed dowitchers, apparently they winter here.

Super capture, poor duck in the pic, he must feel left out of the action .For me a nice B/W would be of interest too.

Looking at the felicitous picture I had the same thought as Manfred: flying dowitchers against an almost monochrome background would be working.
Wish I would have a comparing shot of flocks.

I like the shot, I wish the day would of presented you with more interesting lighting but a really cool capture none the less.

Yes it seems the duck missed the memo I will indeed try the B/W as well, thanks for the suggestion. It has been very overcast here and I am using a 2x converter so I have been limited on my shooting trying to get enough light at a decent ISO.

Dave it was VERY overcast and I was using a 2x converter so my starting f-stop was f/8 I was having trouble finding the right exposure. I am new to all this so that happens more often than I would like but I practice hoping to get better at it.

It was the black tips on the wings that pushed me towards the Godwit rather than the Dowitchers but I'd be the first to admit to limited knowledge of these things.
