    Flamingos

A recent visit to the Camargue and a day at a bird reserve. Initial excitement at the opportunity to see a few flamingos, a couple of hours and several thousand flamingos later I was 'flamingoed out'. Enough flamingos for a lifetime or two and if I never see another it will be too soon.
    Anyhow, flamingos ....

Nice pictures. It reminds me of the time I visited the Coto Donana ten or more years ago. Lots of Flamingos, but none near enough to photograph though.

I like the composition of the first two, Paul. The second one is particularly suggestive.

Interesting series, Paul. We visited the Camargue early last May and only saw a few of them and those far away. Which suited me well because I didn't have gear to shoot and would have only been frustrated anyway.

    Re: Flamingos

Thanks guys. Dan, how you can visit the Camargue and not see flamingos is quite a feat :-)
They have quite a novelty value, they group together and wander round the marsh constantly, constantly talking. Novelty wears off after a while though as there are literally thousands of them.
I'm going back in a few months to give some Photoshop training to some French photographers, I might give flamingos a miss next time round though and focus on the Camargue horses and bulls

Number 3 is a really nice image. They have such an odd looking bill or beak or whatever you want to call it.

I like #1 -- it has a story to it and they sleep with one leg standing and one eye open...

    Re: Flamingos

I love your last shot and your narrative, makes nice finish. I went to the camargue last October and the flamingos weren't that prevalent, or maybe not their time of year or maybe I just got lucky! It was the wide open space that captured my lens' attention most.
