    Upward Glance

Tried a bit of lowlight photography a few months ago, finally getting around to editing some shots from a quick trip to Miami. Purpose of posting is my effort towards pushing the D5200 to its limits.

    f/2, 85mm, 1/90sec, ISO 10,000

An interesting shot John, & it looks like the camera is coping at that ISO limit.
If you wanted to keep the image as a record of the trip, maybe cropping some from the top or toning down the bright spots at the top left, on the railings I think they are. The gaze is quite arresting.

    Hi Kay,

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I think a crop is a good idea.

Still a few hotspots but the look is a bit cleaner.

A capture of a great expression John, "who's taking a picture of me"?

Great expression on her face. Only thing that could have been better if she had a Nikon instead

    Jack,

Thanks for the comments. Perhaps she noticed Nikon on mine and gasped "the nerve".

    Mark,

Thanks for the comments, I'm sure as a fellow photographer she understood.

Definitely a candid moment. Something is amiss with either focal point or motion. The face/hand/camera are not quite sharp while the bag over her shoulder and fabric patter on her left leg look sharper. IMO looks more like focus than motion. It's possible that the AF was struggling with the low lighting conditions. Hard to say. What focus mode were you using?

She's wondering why all her photos are coming out badly. On a +ive note, at least she hasn't popped her flash, trying unsuccessfully to unleash the power of 1000 suns to illuminate nearby architecture.

    Like many do...

Interesting shot. Street photography is something I have yet to try. You inspired me, thanks!

    Dan,

Thanks for the comments. Focus mode was continuous, focus indicator was on closest eye, most likely motion blur as shot was handheld at 1/90s.

I was so tempted to do the same.

Why? because you noticed they noticed or they flinch as the subject at the other end of yours instead of you at the end of theirs? I tend to catch them on the profile while taking a shot of something instead of frontal. Anyway, the crop looks better than the original here.

    Izzie,

I think most photographers' are less concerned with having their photo taken than an ordinary pedestrian, plus they can put themselves (the photographer) in some peculiar looking positions as they try to capture their shot.
