What a time for camera to revert to 0000

I was shooting a group of Maltipoo puppies and other dogs at a rescue event held at a pet store. The pups looked alike so I shot a frame in between each puppy. When I downloaded the shots using Adobe Bridge, I named the group after where I shot the dogs. I then started naming the individual dogs when I opened the images in Photoshop.

This became a bit confused since the camera had reverted to 0000 in the middle of the puppy shots. Therefore the last puppy came up first in Bridge.

Shooting a slate of each pup would have helped. But, I didn't think that I had to. When I shoot at home, I use a separate CF card for each dog I shoot. That way I can tell them apart.

The easiest thing would have been having a camera that allows the recording of an audio track linked to the image. Unfortunately, this very helpful facet was not included in the Canon 7D and I don't think that it was included in the long list of 7Dii bells and whistles. I believe that the 1D line of cameras has audio record as a capability on the recent issues.

MY MESSAGE TO CANON... I'd happily trade your silly "print from camera capability" for an audio capability linked to each frame.

The sad thing is that my early 2000 or late 1990's Olympus 5050Z P&S camera has the capability of linking audio to the still frame. It also has dual (CF and SD) memory slots with the ability to write from one slot to the other.

I've had the same thing happen during agility events. It causes a lot more work. Importing in LR and letting it rename them by time stamp can solve that problem.

It is rather ridiculous how primitive some aspects of modern DSLRs can be. Allowing a few more characters for file naming would go a long way. Then one could reset at the beginning of each shoot and use something meaningful for file names. The camera companies still seem clueless as to why people would rather use a cell phone. Convenience....

As far for Nikon you can reset the numbering starting with 0000.

Yes, that's so. Don't mistake my prior post. It is definitely one's own fault for not resetting if the numbering is important. The second part of my comments were simply a generalized rant

I think my old D5000 has been 'round the clock' 5 times now and still I never remember to set it 0000 when I see it well into the 9000's

Fortunately only once or twice has it caused serious 'time wasting' issues, but confusion reigns every time - until I twig what happened (e.g. why shots aren't in chronological order)

    One day ....

With Nikon there are 3 choices of numbering, On: the last number is placed in memory and is the starting point of further numbering. Off: the camera is using the last number from the card. If there is no image on the card, so no number, then it starts with 0001. Reset: Something as On. If you have a Nikon, you must look for the differences yourself.

So if you empty your card after a download to the pc, than you always start at 00001. Be sure you rename them immediately, otherwise you will have a lot of double numbers.

Is there no option to sort by date taken?
I had similar issue when I had switched to another memory card in between the trip.
So sort by name does not work here and sort my date taken takes hell lot of time to open the folder.
