Thought I would share this one as it has to be one of the most sinister clouds I have captured lately.

I was attempting to take some shots of laid up fishing vessels in the harbour and add some beauty to them

Just impressive! So is the life of a photographer: you aim at a picture; and take a turn to capture the moment.

I very much like the "battle" of the dark cloud against the resistance of the vessel's mast and the sun "fighting" the "dark side".

This is an awesome shot, Grahame. Honestly there is so much to look at in that sky that this one would probably be a better image without the distraction of the boat. Really nicely done. You're making me miss southern seas

That's a great capture Grahame. The oppressiveness of the cloud some how fits perfectly with the condition of the fishing boat. Nicely seen.

All the story lines in this photo are just captured so well , at first I thought too dark around the vessel, but in the whole scheme it is perfect. Great piece of work , really enjoyed it.

Thank you all for commenting on this image, it's an example of where the luck of being in the right place at the right time certainly helps.

One of the areas I was exploring with taking these laid up vessels at dusk was balancing exposures to enable retaining sharpness of the vessels as they are moving slightly, being able to pull out shadow detail of the hull whilst retaining a low ISO.

This unfortunately was the only one out of the many around that had no lights on of which the generally dim yellow lighting would have enhanced the the boat and complimented the sunset.

Can you define 'late' Izzie?. Your comments at any time are welcome.

It conveys to me the black cloud hanging over the future of many of these boats, some abandoned by foreign owners that have gone bust, legal ownership battles and the desire here of the authorities to get rid of them from the harbour.

The easiest solution would be to tow them outside the reef and sink them in deep water, at night

I can understand how you feel...inoperable boats should have been out of the water for they not only look like rubbishy but also a bane to the whatever view should be seen from the land and surrounding areas. I agree with you in that one though I like the way you express it tongue-in-cheeks.
