I like everything about this image, I like that it's a bit busy in the background, as the other 'fireies' (as we say in Oz) add to the scene, I like the gritty touch of noise, I like the hoses neatly rimming the main subjects in & most of all the smiles on the faces of those who work to protect the rest of us.

+1 to Kay's remarks. The frame seems a little cramped. Maybe a little more head room, and some space on the left and right sides, then add a subtle vignette ...

Thanks Greg! I'll play with another edit, not sure about the vignette though, I don't use them but I can give it a shot as well, just to see how it works.

The image may be a bit cramped. It is powerful though, I am not so sure about the vignette but that is only my opinion.

No matter what anyone says, I like the mood of this shot Jack...the smiles on the faces of the men says it all compared to the seriousness of their faces when doing their job. Remarkable !!

Thanks again Izzie! It's very typical, after a job and before they take up (hoses, tools, etc) there's always a little time to chit chat, a little horse play and a** busting. All in good fun. Then on to the next call, these guys basically run non-stop their entire tour.

In aviation, we call that gathering "shooting the breeze"...telling tall tales, the taller the tale, the better... Some time to the uninitiated like I was the first time I sat down with our guys I have a funny feeling I was being taken for a ride because of the look in their eyes but I mainly keep quiet because they are the experts...

    Re: Lighten The Mood

I can almost guaranty that they're busting one of the guys in the group or, telling some story of one of the guys that did something totally stupid. We can be a heartless bunch at times and everyone learns to deal with it. It's (almost) always harmless
