Re: A couple of little muleys.
Not a lot wrong with these images. I may try a crop from the right side of #1. You could probably afford to lose a bit from the top as well if you want to keep the same ratio.
And with the second image, I would try to selectively tone down the background highlights just a fraction.

Not bad...not bad at all. This is just a baby one...I love those eyes. You nailed them well. I am with Geoff about the background highlights...

Re: A couple of little muleys.
Aww. Thanks for the compliment, Dave.
I think these are very nice. You've nailed the focus and the DOF on both of them. I especially like that there are some wildflowers in the first one. I agree with Geoff on both counts. You could lose some off the right and top on the first one to move the deer off dead center. On the second I would crop the right enough to get rid of that branch and it wouldn't hurt anything for some of the top to go to accommodate that since the main focus is the fawn's eye low in the frame. Nicely done.

Re: A couple of little muleys.
I obviously have a "mental crop block".
I see what you all are talking about now, but for the life of me I couldn't see cropping that before you mentioned it. Now it seems pretty obvious. I think I get so caught up on other details I literally loose the "big picture".
Thanks y'all!

What I sometimes do when thinking about crop options is to hold some pieces of card against the screen and slide them around to give a quick idea of various alternatives.
