The bird looks very much like a young American Robin (which is a thrush). This is not the usual type of photo to be seen in monochrome, but some images, like this one, that have very little color in the first place seem to look just as well without the color.

The mono version, a bit more separation from the background.

I think you have a good capture, I just wish the light of the day would of worked for you to add some sort of dynamics to the frame. Just looks kind of a cloudy day blah.

Mono for the greater emphasis on the contrasting details especially on your main subject , due to the lackluster background you don't lose anything , but yet enhance the pic in my opinion.

"against" Raymond my eyes prefer the colour version in separating the bird from a disturbing background.

Is the white balance slightly off?

With the B&W version I would like to see a different crop. Possibly 5 x 4 ratio with less space at the top?

I prefer the color version because it retains the subtle change in tonalities in the bird not displayed in the monochrome version. That's not to say that a monochrome version couldn't display those subtleties, so consider using a different color filter and/or dodging and burning to enhance those characteristics.
