    Telephone Poles in the Morning

Though they are the nemesis of photographers usually, I am wondering if this meant-to-be tranquil scene of telephone poles works at all, or if it's still just... telephone poles?

I'm afraid it's still just telephone poles to me Nick but saying that I suspect it could work if they were not so in-line and central to the composition. It may also help to emphasise the foreground a bit.

The first one works for me, Nick. If you can't get rid of them, then make them the feature. They are a fact of our lives. The challenge is to make them look good/ interesting.

I like the second one that has the mist behind it...

    Me too !

Sorry to be picky Nick but these are not telephone poles, they are power poles carrying a high voltage power line. You can tell by the spacing of the lines and the high voltage insulators on the cross-arms. A bit of trivia for you

I like the second image, with the mist behind the poles.

Somewhere between the two images for me.

The second one has better perspective because that slightly off centre camera angle shows the other poles fading into the distance; but is the first pole fractionally too close to the camera?

Re: Telephone Poles in the Morning

Hi guys, thanks for the helpful comments,

I think the majority consensus is that they the second is better than the first, but they are still just telephone poles rather than wall hangers? Yes I think it might have been better if the poles were less aligned. I liked different elements about each one, the first has the road, and the lines leading in from the top, and tree lines more prominent, but the second features the grass in the FG and the mist more, also the telephone pole in more detail, which I'm not sure if is a plus??

I guess I knew they were not just telephone poles, but carrying power lines- just a familiar name I guess

Hey nobody commented on the Eastern Phoebe on the line!

But my eyesight is not that good in the morning...then when I looked because you mentioned it, I tried to look again and saw a dot. Hmmm....it looks like bunny dust to me... try again....

    Hi Nick,

Beautifully photographed! I love the soft colours and mist, and especially like the sense of depth in the first image, and the sense of scale provided by the Eastern Phoebe (now mentioned) , and the pretty grasses in the foreground of the 2nd image. I wouldn't hang images of power poles on a wall in my home, nevertheless very nicely photographed!

I prefer the first of the two images because of the lines of the edge of the trees complementing the lines of the wires.

I think also that they are telephone pole, or rather power poles doubling as telephone poles. The fourth wire at the top looks like a phone line to me.

Hey, now that you mention it, I don't think I would hang pictures of power poles on my walls either! Forget the wall-hangers idea for these shots, I guess. But I'm glad you liked them, thanks for sharing what you liked about them

Thanks for the comments Tony, I am influenced from both directions about which image I like better. I should pay more attention to these electrical poles, I see the Phoebe was on the using the phone line.

It looks like other people have used power poles for some pretty bizarre compositions. Maybe I should try and get more creative yet
