    Alternative tripod bags

I have been searching Amazon, Ebay and suppliers for months for decent padded tripod bags, my tripods range from £150 to £1,500, I also have alloy and CF Monopods, so I need something to keep them in when in the boot.

Finally today it came to me, Sports Direct, Cricket bags.

The smaller cheap ones at £10 the most expensive large one £40

    Alternative tripod bags

They work like a dream at a fraction of the cost of a tripod bag, AND with enough room to take the gimbals attached

Mine just lie in the boot - never had an issue and don't expect I ever will.

If I enter a sporting goods store and ask for a cricket bag, I think they will show me something altogether different and not very useful for use with a tripod

I suppose it depends on what gear you have, value etc.

Not really - I've always found a good tripod is a remarkably robust bit of equipment.

Yes but I prefer to avoid even scratches where possible

Weird how differently we do things.
Got my Redged CF tripod in a very nice custom made bag. The tripod has been back in that bag only once, ever since the bag is hidden in a cupboard.

I would expect any decent tripod to be shipped in a decent bag.

That does not and has not taken into account that people change the heads, what may fit a bay with JUST the legs as shipped does NOT fit with a gimble for example.............

All of my cameras came with a Nikon (and before them Canon) neck strap, according to your thinking no one would buy OP/Tech, Black Rapid, it is also completely wrong what you say, Gitzo, Manfrotto, Giottos all of which I have from as I said £100 to £1,500+ NONE come with bags because as the manufacturers know NO photographer wants the same head as every one else......... Or Perhaps my Gitzos and Wimberleys are not as good as Redged

I use a Cricket bag with wheels on one end to transport my tripods and flash stands, cheap and works well.

Before my time of using an electric mobility scooter to traverse those back trails, I used a golf cart
to carry my gear...kept the camera attached to the tripod all the time.

    Re: Alternative tripod bags

I'm a believer as well Jeremy, have been using cricket bat bags and hockey stick bags for tripod/monopod for some years now. Some also have a handy pocket on the outside, which fits a light shower/rain cover....for me or the camera
Another one to check out is rifle/gun bags, I find light stands fit in these roll up bags.
Anything purpose labelled 'photography' equipment seems to be more expensive!
I have also purloined my daughter's hair straightener bag and portable iPhone speaker set bag.
1 of which fits the gorilla tripod, I have the largest 1 of these for travel & the other has the pocket wizards.
Anything with some padding & the right sz & shape, is worth a look.
And working back the other way camera bags or backpacks that sit flat and can have the top opening sort of peel back (if that makes sense) are fantastic for sports team first aid kits!
I put a Lowepro bag which my gear has outgrown into service this way. It offers very quick access & all the items are kept seperate & easily located. Purpose first aid backpacks open from the top & everything is on top of something else & useless in a hurry!

    Perhaps? You never know.

Redged - a tripod manufactured by a Photographer for Photographers.
    This is why:

    Redged - bagged.
    Alternative tripod bags

Redged - unbagged with monopod and head.
    Alternative tripod bags

Redged - fully extended. The wall in the BG is a 6' wall (1.8m)
    Alternative tripod bags

How many of these tripods can you fit in the back of your car?

One of the reasons I chose Redged is because I can take it wherever I go. Bagged or unbagged.

Now show me a photograph of the tripod with a Wimberley on it zipped up, no, you can't.

The build quality doesn't match Gitzo, sorry, and would I place a D4s and 600mm on a ball and socket, in someones dreams....................

Bought my £150 Manfrotto without a bag. This a lot of money for me.

My tripod has a superb bag, four wheels, made of steel for protection, air conditioned, lockable and its best feature a massive great engine to get it where I want

That is exactly my point NO decent tripod manufacturer bothers with a bag, why, because photographers who know what they want fit all types of heads and a supplied bag 99% of the time would be just for legs and not take a gimbal, pan/tilt, video head etc

From a social etiquette stance I wonder how many times one is allowed to mention how expensive their gear is before they appear rather boorish?
