Thread: Affinity Photo Beta

    Affinity Photo Beta

I just stumbled upon this, downloaded it and started playing with it for the last 15 minutes.

I have a feeling some of you here would like to look into this. I'm not sure what the cost will be when the beta testing is over but I'd be willing to bet allot cheaper than photoshop. It looks pretty promising so far.

Looks interesting! I wonder when it will be issued in a PC format?

I have no idea. At the moment I'm trying to figure out how to paint a mask in AND back out. Looks like plenty of little bugs to deal with thus far.

It looks promising, and if they sell it without the cloud bs, I think I'd be very interested.

According to DP Review beta users may get the package for $50.00 with two or three years of support--I will need to find the article again.

    Re: Affinity Photo Beta

I see it is produced by Serif who also make Photo Plus.

I did use their software at one time and it was reasonably good, although not on a par with Adobe CS software when it came to selections and similar techniques. Their Raw conversion was poor so I used Raw Therapee for that.

Latterly they seemed to be concentrating more on 'gimick editing' for basic level photographers so I switched to CS5.

Certainly a company which has been around for some time and produces a fairly wide range of software. I still use their Page Plus software which is excellent for Desktop Publication work etc.

It will be interesting to see just how well this works and what price. No reason why they can't produce something similar to Adobe CS quality.

But one other thing which drove me away from Serif was the forceful attitude of their sales staff. At one time they would phone me for a friendly chat but that eventually developed into some high pressure selling from inexperienced salesmen who simply wouldn't accept no and would claim their programmes could do what was impossible.

I hope they are changing that attitude as well.

Have been looking on the Serif Information site. Am I correct in believing that this software only works on Mac computers?
