The Holy well at Atwick is an ancient place reputed to be haunted by a bogget in the form of a one eyed woman with a shawl. The legend has also been connected to Odin, the one eyed- Norse God. Didn't see any boggets today though. The photographs were not particularly inspiring as the day was dull and miserable. so I decided to have a play with overlays. One way to deal with the dust boggets, anyway!

I like the final version, Carolyn - particularly the sky. You've made the water hole look like a location where I might expect to encounter some spectral presence in the dark of night.

Hi Carolyn,

Interesting spot with an interesting legend.

You have some obvious “tells” in shot #2 with the clone-outs of the two posts in the form of repeating patterns and the power lines didn’t get cloned all the way to the edge of the frame. Also looks like another spot or two was missed with the lines. The right most post didn’t get cloned to the frame edge as well.

For the posts and without knowing how you approached it I would guess that you cloned too big an area at a time to take out the posts.

Seems like some strange areas of discoloring in the branches and water, and maybe some dust bunnies? Did you by chance replace the sky?

I like the result of #3 because on the first two the telephone/electrical pole is showing. In #3 the effect is very good but I do not like the framing much...

Thanks Terry. I should be more painstaking with the cloning out, and not to do too large and area at a time. One of the overlays was a grungy fungussy one which will explain the discoloration and excessive Bunnying. I still have an issue with the bunnies but after all the trying to sort it the Nikon shutter error occurred I am trying not to keep takiñg the lens off and on so much for a while, and trying to sort the images out with patching. I did this early on in work flow until I found out that some processes later on showed them up again. Steep learning curve. Thanks for pointing out the things I should look at more carefully. Even though things like this are just a bit of fun, it is all practise for the shots that matter.

Thanks Izzie. The frame as it has appeared must be because I applied a 'rounded corner' effect and the white is the depixellated background? As I was working on a white screen background I didn't notice . Will have to see how that works! I left the telegraph post in deliberately there. They are so much a feature of Holderness landscape, and it did add another reference line to my eye which breaks up the flatness and horizontals a bit. I make images of period re-enactment, and anachronisms in those shots annoy me, so I was in two minds about the overall impression of this image, so thanks for pointing it out.

The final result is pretty good, amazing you can achieve that from the conditions you shot the image in.
