I have the MK3 and at £450 I don't think I will try this

In fact I have looked at the MK3 and it is the weatherproofin that stops it attaching to tubes.

I can't see from these images any weather proofing/sealing on the front end of the TC.

The other option he would of had is to cut a slot in a Tube flange, a bit more care and skill needed but feasible and would save de-valuing a far more expensive component.

Canon also limit which lenses one can use the teleconverter with. So for example the Canon 70-300 zoom (non L version) which is an excellent cheapish lens especially on crop cameras will not accept a converter, but the independent makers ones do fit, so in my 7D bag is a £100 1.4 teleconverter.

Can we take it then that there is no weatherproofing on the MK3 as mentioned in the original post that causes the front end of that specific item to be unable to fit to some tubes?

As far as I was aware the weatherproofing/weather resistance is by an 'O' ring type seal on the aft end of the converter that comes up against the camera body. The weatherproofing/weather resistance at the front end would be provided by a similar 'O' ring type seal on the lens aft end.

It sounds like what you are referring to is the lens housing being physically too large a diameter, I doubt the lens housing is considered a factor in the weatherproofing/weather resistance of the unit.

Did you visit one of the links I posted which clearly states

A rubber gasket on the rear of the converter provides a seal against the camera body to help prevent the ingress of dust and moisture. The seal on any weather resistant Nikon lens then presses against the flat front of the converter. Nikon have applied a fluorine coating to lens surfaces, which is designed to repel dust and moisture too.

I will attach that photo too even though it is on the link, it has rubber seals on BOTH ends, I was only interested in the rubber seal that prevents attaching tubes etc in this post, the converter IS weather sealed

My interest in this is not as to whether the MK3 is weather sealed or not, it is to what is actually physically stopping it, and as you say it is the housing of the central element. What I will say is that if a Nikon Rep considers the outer diameter of the lens housing as 'weather proofing/resistance' rather surprising if you look at the image carefully in the link you gave.
