    Out My Window Today (02/14/15)

Heavy snow squalls are passing with whiteout conditions today. Tonight below zero temps with wind chill 25-30 below zero.

Very nice, unfortunately we'll be sharing some of the same weather with you. Lake is frozen yet we still get lake effect snow, really!

That's a lovely image. Wonderful colour and tone. Pity about those pesky wires, but I suppose they're part of the scene.

Jim, that captures the weather pretty well I would say, so a bit cold then
thats why the Scottish invented Whiskey - and we are all grateful for that

stay warm sir and I look forward to the crispy white sunny shots in the aftermath

This one stopped me in my tracks Jim! I like the black and white conversion slightly better due to the minimizing of the wires as Donald suggested.

As far of as the weather goes I think that this image really shows how one can make lemonade from lemons - nice work

I love the black & white version and the no sharpening.

Re: Out My Window Today (02/14/15)

I personally prefer the colour version, although the impact of the power lines is certainly noticeable in the B&W version.

When an image is so close to being monochrome anyways, I fail to see what advantages of going to B&W are. Monochrome is a compositional choice, just as colour is. In the case of this image, there is a touch of colour, and I find that makes it quite special; there is little to be gained and a lot to be lost in the conversion.

All that being said; I guess I'm the stupid one, heading outside in this kind of weather...
