Still life photography is one of the only genres that allow total control of the output, as lighting is
the only experimental factor. If you shoot tethered, you get real time information on that lighting
scenario and what changes with the moving of that lighting a few degrees to and fro, without going
thru the hassle of taking the shot>uploading it>evaluating>changing lighting, ad nauseam.

Your subject matters not a wit...it's all about the light. Later choose a pretty subject.

I hate still life, because like landscape I am terrible at it, never been any good never will be.

There are shooters here who for them it is second nature. I admire the good macro shooters, and still lifers.

I think it's a nice shot. The shadows at the top right corner are a bit dark perhaps, but overall I like it.

If you hate something because you are no good at it there is always the option to learn, this is a learning community.

If you do not enjoy what you are doing and do not have a wish to get better it will unfortunately show in your work.

Oh what a shame....don't be so defeatist. With a little practise it's amazing what you can be good at. Persevere and we'll encourage you.

    BTW she's a lovely snowdrop.

I think its a nice shot, it just seems to lack a tiny bit of detail for me. It all seems a bit too smooth.

In the cities here, people love these snowdrops. In the country areas, where they infest pasture areas, they are considered a pest. Regardless, I think they are pretty.

I, too, am a hater of still life because I am not good at it. This image is a good one, however why do we
have to use a black background? It is just a thought but, I do believe a valid one. That is only my opinion.

I chose the exact opposite (non) to the white of the showdrop so that it stood out, as you know neither black nor white are colours, black absorbs all colours white reflects all

    I'm not good at...
That statement behooves us to ask ourselves "why" as it generally it revolves around not learning
    about the subject in question.

The black background...what would be a more appropriate color...why?
Are you a journalist or an artist?
