A lovely looking bird, indeed. I'd be hard pressed to pick the most beautiful bird. There are so many varieties that are beautiful in different ways.

I have never seen this striking bird before. Not even a photo- that I remember. No good idea what it is... kingfisher type thing??

Correct: it is a southern carmine bee-eater (Merops nubicoides) seen in Katavi National Parc, Tanzania last July.

This other bird is a lovely bird as well. The second one is especially sharp and colorful, and the first is an interesting take as well.
