    home on the range

in this case where the prairie dogs roam - the original photo was a little over exposed and the foreground was washed out and distracting .... ... any thoughts on how to make it better are welcome

Nicely recovered, there are a few things you can do but may not feel inclined to undertake. I would try removing some of the weeds especially around the face. Some of the weeds along the body are fine, also I would try to add a bit of contrast around the head to give it a bit of separation from the background.

The grass around its face would certainly be something of a struggle to clone away, but for me, it doesn't look quite so bad if you show a little more of the grass to demonstrate the actual location; amongst a load of grass.

    Possibly something like this

I might try cropping a little wider if it were mine just to show a little more of the surroundings and the critter's body, because to me this one looks more like a scene shot than a portrait. Just an idea. Exposure doesn't look all that bad on the original. Hey, BTW, where did you find this guy, may I ask?

Cool, I'd take my camera there for the critter, even if it weren't where the barn was! Do you think this might be a Uninta Ground Squirrel or something similar? I've heard these are commonly mistaken for prairie dogs in the Tetons
