Minimal insect
A 'little' while ago I put up a beetle shot - it was a minimalist shot to show and say 'beetle' rather than a image to show a specific act/habitat/feature etc. around the same time I took this one - but have only really now got to edit it.
There was a small swarm of ants, the weather was right for them to leave the nest with wings and fly away to set up new nests - to 'swarm' - so this is a winged ant climbing to a high point to take off to swarm and set up a new nest.
as always C & C very welcome

Re: Minimal insect
I liked the little documentary about the ants, it's funny how they get wings later in the season, but it's a nice picture as well, even if only its head is in focus, but then, that's the most important part, I guess.

Re: Minimal insect
Cheers Nick, yep and from what I understand they only get 1 flight, its a mating flight - so its critical they get the right conditions to go - or a defunct short flight is a disaster as when they land they lose the wings post mating and if not far enought away from the original nest - there is a problem!
Thanks John, appreciated

Re: Minimal insect
Mark...this is a great shot. I like that in the unexpanded version, it looks like it is looking back at you...well, that was ruined by expanding the shot in lytebox...but nevertheless, it is a nice effect you did here. Love it.

Re: Minimal insect
Very good Mark, the 'minimalist' approach works well when you can separate from the background as good as this.

Re: Minimal insect
Izzie, thanks - I do wonder what they see with their compound and specialised eyes compared to what we see with our highly developed eyes
Cheers Dan, much appreciated
Thank you Grahame, got to love the macro lens and shallow Dof
