    Portrait of a Lizard

Thought it was time I shared some of my critters again so got around to finishing these two off ...................

Normally found in trees and shrubs and with a habit of jumping on you and running up your legs. This fella seemed to prefer some rocks so grabbed a few as he seemed happy to hang out with me.

    Hand held with natural light.

Hi Grahame: Thanks for sharing the lizard portraits. I actually have a "thing" for lizards, maybe because we don't have too many up here. They have the most interesting crinkly, yet soft, skin. When I was in grade 7, (many moons ago) the classroom had a pet iguana. Every weekend, a lucky child was allowed to bring him home. For some reason, every student just could not wait for their turn. Wouldn't happen today... There would probably be a lawsuit of some kind.

These are great. Revealing charm in a reptile is an achievement. Cute little character.

The world seems so different when using a macro lens. Great shots and I have to say, I've become very appreciative of our macro photographers here. Thanks for sharing!

Very nice head shots,Grahame...I was tempted to catch a blue tongue one yesterday and put it in the freezer to shoot because it was moving too much, but the freezer is not mine and I might forget about it...I can just imagine my DIL coming home from work or my son opening the freezer to find a lizard in there...frozen at the back of the meat department... If you find a way how to stop them scurring away when I approach, beside the 'show my face' advice, it will be nice...

Grahame, nice, really like them, if you get chance to do a close up headshot with just the eye I think that would be awesome, very similar to a gekko I see in the eden project for colouration.

well if you did forget Izzie - theres always the barbie - bush tucker

This one would have been about 5 inches end to end David, a decent size so no need to be too close.

    Cheers, Grahame

Pleased you like the close up Griddi, at times it's good to just see a small part in greater detail and I find it can emphasise character

They can't do you any harm Barbara

We have lizards living all over the house inside and I've never known one attack me at night

    Hi Suzan,

They sure are interesting critters and extremely photogenic, if you get lucky. We have four common types here, each having a very different skin in colour and smoothness.

We have our own native Iguana here but are also being plagued on some of the Islands by the American Iguana. An eradication programme has been in place for some time and the latest I read was that they are going to use the army to assist with removing them

Thanks David, it does show the world in a somewhat different way that we generally tend to pass by.

I would love to get an eye close up Mark but it means getting in pretty close with all the tubes on plus conditions that are going to give you high IQ, quite a challenge.
