This is somewhat of a snapshot. As I was hiking up a trail in the Tetons I was passed by multiple horseback riders carrying tents and camping supplies for the up and coming elk season. Here is one of the horseman coming back down the trail.

I'm not sure what I could of done to make the shot more interesting, I didn't want to spook the horse of a total stranger so I just stood back and asked, "mind if I take your picture?". So...

Looks good to me, only thing missing is what is he towing, but then that adds to the mystery/story.

Nice pic , not sure I care for the lighting on the subjects face , but the sun glasses do standout which helps.

I put a bit of brightness on his face under the brim of his hat. Just a TAD brighter - either using NIK Viveza control point or using the Photoshop dodge tool.

BTW: his hat sort of looks more like an Aussie Akubra Stockman's hat (I have and wear one) than a cowboy hat worn by a Texan... I just love my Akubra!

It works for me...and yes, I love my Akubra in summer, covers the face more than any other hats that I have...

You piqued my curiosity. Snapshot was applied to any shot taken by an amateur to catch a moment with the moment being more important than the technical perfection of the shot. Later big name photographers borrowed the term for a counter genre to Romantic/studio shooting. I am not convinced that this thread features a 'snapshot'. (but I am not even close to authoritative on this subject)

As far as my "snapshot" comment, if you would of seen me fumbling with my camera, hesitantly asking a stranger on horse back if this Texan standing in the bushes could take his picture, and then trying to get framed, you probably would see my point of this being a snapshot. Maybe I should of said borderline hip shooting with a camera.

Anyway, this was a purely unintentional photo considering I was staring at rocks and beautiful foliage going up the trail. ...and I agree about the sunglasses, but can only assume they are better for snow covered terrain.

Orangey sunglasses is better in snow and when driving in the rain. What he is wearing is the sort prevalent with ground navigation, or sort of like general purpose-in-one with polarized filters of some sort, Oakley...Okee???
