    Dear John,

    Yes, there is "that look".

Great capture. Did you do this one "from the hip"? Did you prefocus?

You always see some very interesting vignettes.

John...I do so hate people photography but...then I took a closer look at your camera settings after,
I marveled at the stellar conversion. ISO 4000, where did all the noise go?
    Like I said...great conversion!

    Hi Marie,

Thanks for the comments, yes this was done from the hip, not pre-focused.

    Hi Chauncey,

Thanks for the comments, I tend to get better captures when I'm on the move rather than sitting in one place waiting for the situation to come to me. There was quite a bit of noise in the image, mostly on the ladies faces, used NIK Dfine2 to reduce.

Nicely timed. Why such high iso? I never really go beyond 1000 and the lighting here doesn't seem too bad tbh...not low enough for such a high iso? However noise reduction very good though this does seem to soften certain areas the image. Good conversion I must add. Never really done much off the hip..seems a bit hit and miss for me...usually I go in straight for the kill..lift camera up..frame, focus and by the time anyone has realised I've taken a shot I'm gone ha ha!

Notice the EXIF data John provided. He used the absolutely slowest shutter to guarantee that the action would be stopped. (I wouldn't have used a shutter speed that slow but he got away with it working.) So, the high ISO value was required to stop the action using the selected aperture. The only way to have used a lower ISO value would have been to use a larger aperture. He was shooting from the hip and probably felt that a larger aperture risked not keeping everything in focus.

    Kev,

Thanks for the comments, I too prefer shooting with a lower ISO but as the day dwindles you are sometimes forced to make sacrifices.

    Terrific John!
I struggle with the noise of my 7D in a whole other way, the noise of the shutter, even on either of the 'silent' settings, would give me away.

    Kay,

Thanks for the comments, how I would love to dampen the noise of my shutter, sounds so thrilling in the movies but in real life it makes me cringe; plus it adds to my thrill of the movie thinking "there's no way they didn't hear that loud shutter".

Good hip shot using an 85mm lens!

Were you inside or outside the shop's premises?

    William,

Thanks for the comments. I was outside the shop.

That's a great grab shot. It's the one that makes all the "nearly" shots worth while.
