OK even so: at what I assume would have been a reasonably large Shooting Distance, it is still a very good Hip-shot with an 85mm on APS-C Camera.

I often feel like I am too close when shooting with the 85mm, too much gets cropped, or if really close the lens won't autofocus. But I like how the lens handles lowlight situations and it really gathers light in daylight.

    specifically. . . you're using the EF 85/1.8 on an EOS 7D?

Also, was it a shooting scenario where it just happen to be the lens on the camera at the time so you made the shot with what you had - OR - do you typically plan to 'go street' with an 85 on an APS-C?

    Nikon D5200 with AF-S 85/1.8G.

A bit of both, the sun had already set and my other lenses, an UWA 10-24 and a 70-300mm just weren't cutting it, so the only available lens was the 85mm. I brought the 85mm specifically for some lowlight experimental shooting. I have other smaller focal length lenses but didn't bring them on the trip. You never know exactly what you need until you get there.

I've tried the 18-55 kit, 40mm f/2.8, and 55-200mm kit for street. The 40mm is more versatile for changing lighting conditions, the 55-200mm for changing subjects. The 10-24mm is fun, but I'm usually standing on the subjects toes to get the shot.

David, thanks for the comments, sometimes the story is evident when first seeing the potential capture, sometimes it slowly becomes evident during the post processing.
