I learned something from the link about shutters- thanks.

I don't fully understand the liquid crystal shutter idea, the description was calling it optical, so maybe it would work, but one reason I think the current DSLR shutter is a good design is that it is an optical view, and TTL. I find the EVF design frustrating since is very hard to track subjects while it your view blacks out as you zoom in, or each time you point it in a different direction while the camera re-adjusts exposure for the changing light. Also, EVFs don't show faint light, so you cannot find stars in them.

Look at the video I linked. The glass of the toilet door lets light passing through but when you put some currency on it, locking the door manual in this case, light is blocked. Some people are playing with the idea to replace the curtain shutter with this concept.

Immersed in telescope remote control and looking at upgrading my Linux all of which got a bit complicated. The upgrade seems to be forcing some windozey eye candy on me that has been in Linux a lot longer as an option.

To be honest I suspect this type of electronic shutter is a none starter as they don't block out enough light as Ted pointed out after a fashion. Some cameras already have electronic this and that curtains and some cameras have no shutter at all. I'm thinking more of rather high end video cameras in that area. I'd guess things will go further in that direction.

On mirrorless maybe we will see a lot more pixels in the viewfinder - maybe via a penta mirror.
