You have managed to keep the whole scene well focused. A perfect example of typical UK winter weather; on a good day.
Steve, nice job, well executed. Now, where are my walking boots ?
I thought you call it "wellies" Mark...
Very nice view Steve...I like but I cannot describe what I do not like in it...apart from perhaps the crop? I think this kind of scenario will benefit well if it is done in a landscape orientation not square or portrait...or perhaps it is common that a landscape be in a landscape orientation more because that is how our eyes are trained to look at views like this? I do not know but this shot is begging to find some more on each side....what is there more to see...but then that is just me I suppose...
Nicely done, very engaging image, I can almost hear the wind flowing through the greenery.
+1 to Izzie's comment, I don't think the composition is quite right.
Hi Steve,
The vertical composition works for me because I believe that if it had more (image) left and right, it would dilute the view of the primary subject.
Have you considered trying some additional Local Contrast Enhancement (LCE) to it?
There is something on the path, to the left, which unduly attracts my attention due to its shape and tonality, if mine, I would clone it out, or change its tone/colour to less attention grabbing.
Not having heard of this place before, when I read the thread title, I was expecting an image of a culinary nature
Hi, Steve!
My preference is actually portrait mode as i like the way the path leads you across the hilltop to Roseberry Topping. (I love that name!!!)
The title piqued my interest. Like Dave, i was expecting something more of an ice cream topping!
Nicely done. What Dave is seeing, I think, are some man-made obstacles to keep motorized vehicles off of the path.
Marie
Hi Izzie Thanks for taking the time to comment. I took a few shots here, both landscape and portrait. I just felt that this one turned out the best. I was trying to use the path to lead the eye through the shot to the top of the hill and the portrait orientation seemed to fit how I had visualised it. Maybe I should have left a bit more "breathing" space instead of framing so tightly.
Hi Dave
Thanks for your comments. I'm not an expert on post processing to say the least. When you say "local contrast enhancement" do you mean just to darken the sky? I did notice the light coloured object near the path, I think you're right that it is distracting. I may try darkening this as you suggest.
Roseberry Topping is an unusual name now you mention it! I'm just used to it I suppose
No, that's not what Dave would be meaning. Have a read of this CiC tutorial which, hopefully, explains it all. If not, then please do come back with questions.
LCE is a brilliant tool/technique. It's the thing that can make pictures really 'pop'.
Hi Marie
Thanks for your comments. It was my intention to use the path to lead the eye through the image, I'm glad you like it that way.
Roseberry Topping is an unusual name for a hill and as you say it does sound like something to be eaten. It's quite a well known land mark in the north east of England.
Well done Steve, I can nearly see my house in this image.
