Monaco Station

Hi Folks...stations fascinate me..the architecture can be outstanding but the lighting too really grabs me. This was quite early in the morning..just after I arrived and most passengers left the station, normally I like to see more people in the shot. C&C welcome as always.

I think you would have lost some of the leading lines and depth if there were more people. Nicely captured.

Wonderful image, Kev. That's all about light and shade; shape and line, not people. More people would, I think, have taken away from the image, as John suggests

Yes I like it too Kev. It's a classic example of lines leading you through the image. The mono conversion has a slightly "grungy" look to it which works well in this case for me. I don't know whether this is because of the pp treatment or just the way the contrast is in the scene.

thank you all for taking time to look and comment. Its getting really hard to take photos of stations in the U.K..the security or transport police just don't like it..I've been told not to take photos in two different locations now whats it like in the rest of the world?

It's probably different in every city, I didn't have any problems in NYC in Grand Central Station or in Vancouver train station. Hardly any officials, that I could see in Toronto, but I'm sure the stations are monitored by camera. I get more funny looks in shopping malls, some historical buildings, and anywhere near a bank.

My local railway station is a favourite location for me and I don't have the problems that you describe Kev. These days, post the privatisation of the rail network, they have the right to stop you because you are no longer on public property. However, when the first time I visited, I was challenged on the basis of anti terrorist legislation (always the catchall these days), I asked to see the Station Manager to get his OK. By the time I had crossed the line to where the individual had challenged me from, he had spoken the station manager obtained permission on my behalf on the condition that I left the passengers alone. I suspect that I was lucky. Being a mainline station, it warrants a manager prepared to make a judgement. So often in these situations, when the individual challenging you is unsure of his ground, he/she will err toward the cautious. I've always found that asking permission generally does the trick. I have had the same experience in my local shopping centre.

Wonderful image! Including more people in the scene could have worked but they would have had to be strategically positioned (whether posed or not) to pull it off as well as the scene you captured.
